RF Microneedling
Introduction to RF Microneedling
Your skin will gradually become loose and dull as you get older due to the loss of collagen and elastin as your body begins to produce less and less. RF Microneedling has been around for years as a great way to stimulate this production and provide you with tighter and glowing skin. With the advancement of technology, there’s been a major improvement to this technique with Sylfirm X. We’re excited to provide our San Jose patients with RF Microneedling to rejuvenate their appearance. To learn more about this revolutionary approach to skin rejuvenation, please keep reading below.
What is RF Microneedling?
RF Microneedling uses radio frequency (RF) and tiny needles to puncture your skin and create micro-injuries to promote collagen production. The RF energy heats the deeper layers of your skin through brief pulses. Dr. Chase Lay and our team of Registered Nurses & Nurse Practitioners use the Sylfirm X for our treatments. This device is a revolutionary approach to RF Microneedling technology that can transform your skin’s appearance and provide your skin tone and texture with even more youthful vibrancy.
Sylfirm X sets itself apart from other RF Microneedling treatments thanks to its pulse wave setting. It is currently the only fractional RF Microneedling that features both a short pulse wave (PW) and a continuous wave (CW). The device is strategically adjustable in that both the needle depth and power can be dialed up or down to achieve the best results for your skin. The PW is best for treating pigment, redness, and small broken blood vessels, whereas the CW is better for skin tightening and treating scarring.
RF Microneedling with Sylfirm X is an FDA-cleared RF microneedling system that can be used to treat these skin issues:
- Acne
- Acne scarring
- Age spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Hyperpigmentation
- Melasma
- Rosacea
- Skin laxity
Exosomes Treatment
Powered by ExoSCRT, BENEV Exosome treatment is a topical cosmetic solution that is a scientific biotech breakthrough when it comes to skin and scalp rejuvenation and regeneration. The exosomes are responsible for cell communication and facilitating the RNA and other important proteins between cells (i.e. fibroblasts, keratinocytes, immune cells, etc.), as well as transferring growth factors and genetic materials. When combined with RF Microneedling, it can increase elastin and collagen production with faster healing times. While very similar to PRP/PRF treatments in how your body responds to the Exosomes, it’s a great alternative for patients with an aversion to having their blood drawn as the solution doesn’t require your blood.

What’s the First Step?
If you are in the San Jose area and are interested in RF Microneedling with SylfirmX, the first step is to contact our office and schedule an appointment. When you come in for your consultation, you will be able to meet with your provider and discuss your aesthetic concerns and desires for the treatment. You will also be asked about your medical history, so you should be open and honest to prevent any unnecessary risks. The healthcare provider will evaluate your skin and your goals to craft a procedure plan that will work best for you.
If you like the plan that was made for you, you will be able to get your first treatment performed right then, or you may need to schedule a time that works better with our Patient Coordinator. It’s a good idea to have this treatment scheduled at least a week before any events you may have coming up to give any side effects some time to subside.
What to Expect on the Day of RF Microneedling
When you come into our office for your treatment, you will make yourself comfortable on our reclining treatment chair. We recommend that you come in without makeup and have your face washed to speed up your experience, otherwise you will be required to do so before we can begin. We do offer our patients a topical numbing cream to alleviate any pain associated with RF microneedling, but some of our patients more familiar with the treatment tend to opt-out.
Dr. Lay or one of our Aestheticians will use the electronically controlled handpiece that contains 25 ultrafine gold-plated needles to pierce the skin and deliver the rf energy (heat) below the skin’s surface without damaging the outer layer of the skin. They will pass over your skin in a strategic pattern to ensure the entire surface area of your skin is treated. Many patients feel a mild warming sensation during their treatment, but if for any reason the treatment feels too intense for you, let the provider know so the power can be adjusted.
The entire treatment can take between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the region being treated.
RF Microneedling Recovery
After your treatment, you will be able to return home and recover comfortably. You are free to continue your daily routines, but your skin will be slightly pinkish which should resolve within 24 hours. Over the next few days, you may notice your old skin become dry and possibly peel as your new skin becomes more apparent. You should avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours, after which, you can return to your normal skin care regimen and apply makeup again.
You can expect to attend a few more sessions for the best results, but we will always inform you when we would like to see you again. Over the next few months, you will see an increase in collagen production that will provide you with tighter and more youthful-looking skin.

Depending on what you are treating, results can be visible almost immediately, with most patients seeing gradual improvement over the following two to three months. The exact time frame will depend on your skin type and the severity of the condition being treated.
Can I combine RF Microneedling with other procedures?
Absolutely! While we do recommend waiting a few weeks before having additional skin rejuvenation treatments, many of our RF Microneedling patients in San Jose will combine their procedure with either BOTOX, Dermal Fillers, or chemical Peels/ VI Peels for a more dynamic look.
