EZ PRF

Introduction to PRF

By now, the secret of PRP therapy is pretty well known. Between its natural composition and its speedy healing powers, it seems like you can’t go anywhere without seeing PRP Microneedling or a “Vampire Facelift”, but with all the benefits and half the worry, why would you want anything else? Well now, our team at Chase Lay, MD offers our San Jose PRF patients the next evolutionary step in this “miracle” procedure with EZ PRF. To learn more about this treatment and how it could benefit you, please keep reading below.

What is PRF?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a form of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy that uses a centrifuge to separate the PRF from your blood and use it as a natural additive for treatments for skin rejuvenation, hair restoration, and wound healing.

While you may not ever think about it, your body heals itself of minor scratches and cuts with great success, and can even heal deeper wounds over time, thanks to these platelets found in your blood. Your blood contains 55% Plasma, 5% Platelets, and 40% Red Blood Cells, so even with this small percentage of healing factor aid, your body can do amazing things! Research has shown that by concentrating the platelets through centrifugal force and using that concentrate for cosmetic purposes, incredible results are achieved.

After drawing a specific amount of your blood, it is put into a tube that is placed in a centrifuge. This centrifuge spins very fast and separates the PRF or PRP from your blood, depending on the speed. Once separated, this PRF or PRP can be combined with dermal fillers or microneedling to not only encourage collagen and elastin growth but also provide a “scaffolding” that provides additional structure to your skin. EZ PRF was created to be the ultimate blood concentrate that is 100% natural, free of additives or chemicals, and packed with powerful cells for skin rejuvenation purposes.

What’s the Difference between EZ PRF and traditional PRP?

While PRP is a great treatment in and of itself, at our practice, we have found that by slowing down the centrifuge and using the platelet-rich fibrin, your body will maximize its natural healing response without damaging its environment. We can achieve up to 10x the platelet concentration from traditional PRP due to this very low G-Force. This is because when the centrifuge spins at a faster rate, most of the “good stuff” gets pushed toward the bottom of the vial as opposed to resting near the top, making it more difficult to acquire.

What are the Benefits of PRF?

What’s the First Step?

If you are interested in EZ PRF in the San Jose area, the first step is to contact our office and schedule an appointment. When you come in for your consultation, you will be able to meet with Dr. Lay, one of our Nurse Practitioners, or Registered Nurses, and discuss your goals for the treatment, ask any questions you may have, and your skin will be evaluated. You will also be asked about your medical history, so it’s important to be open and honest to prevent any unnecessary risks. Once this information is collected, a personal procedure plan will be made for you. If you agree with this plan, our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you schedule your treatment date.

What to Expect on the Day of PRF

Depending on what you are looking to use PRF for, your experience will be different, but it will always start the same. You will come into our office and get comfortable in our reclining treatment chair. A small sample of your blood will be collected in the EZPRF tubes and then spun at a specific speed to separate your red blood cells from everything else. The centrifugal force generated pushes the heavier red blood cells to the bottom of the tube. Once this step is complete, we can collect the top layer of the tube’s content, which is composed of your very own Platelets and White blood cells.

PRF Recovery

After your EZ PRF treatment, you will be able to return to your day but keep in mind that your face will be red and you may experience light bruising, itching, and swelling, which can last for a few days after your treatment. You can use Ice or cold compresses to reduce swelling but should be used in short increments. You should avoid all anti-inflammatory medications for at least three days after your procedure.

PRF FAQs

Is PRF painful?

The injections are not particularly painful, but the treatment does require a small amount of blood to be drawn, which is virtually painless. The PRF is injected into your targeted treatment area, so it’s common to feel a tingly sensation when the PRF is injected; this is normal. Most patients are surprised at how painless EZ PRF treatments can be.

How many appointments will I need?

The number of sessions you need will depend on what you’re trying to achieve and the treatment you are getting. Most patients will see the best results after multiple sessions that build upon each previous treatment. While on average, you can expect three to four treatments, when you come in for your consultation and receive an evaluation, we will be able to give you a much better idea.

How long until I see results?

PRF requires treatments to be spaced apart every six to eight weeks. Long-term benefits, such as enhanced skin quality, collagen production, and skin tightening, can take up to three months to be fully noticed but can last anywhere from six to twelve months.

Can I combine PRF with other procedures?

Our San Jose PRF patients will often combine their treatment with other rejuvenation treatments, such as Dermal Fillers, BOTOX, or Microneedling. If you have a particular goal in mind, please bring this up during your consultation. Our knowledgeable and experienced team will be more than happy to provide you with some expert suggestions to help you achieve your desired appearance.

What are the risks associated with PRF?

PRF is a very safe treatment due to the nature of its contents and our team at the office of Chase Lay, MD cares deeply about your safety, so we will do everything we can to ensure healthy and effective results. However, with every procedure comes the chance of risks and EZ PRF’s most common side effects can be:
