Brow Lift

Brow lift young woman

At our boutique practice in San Jose, brow lift is one of our most popular facial plastic surgery procedures and can actually be used to enhance the eye area. The procedure is performed on both men and women who are experiencing drooping in the eyebrow area or patients with a pre-existing double eyelid fold or a double eyelid crease. Oftentimes, this can give the impression that you’re tired, sad, or even angry. When in reality, it’s just genetics or aging. If you’re experiencing these issues, a brow lift might be the best procedure for you.

Dr. Chase Lay strives to deliver the best brow lift in the Bay Area while placing patient saftey and communication as his top priorities. Dr. Lay specializes in the infra-brow lift technique, which is an optimal procedure when pairing it with eyelid surgery or helping to correct upper eyelid issues.

Below, we’ve included information about the procedure, frequently asked questions, and information about our head facial plastic surgeon—Dr. Chase Lay.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a highly effective way to elevate your sagging brow line to create a more youthful-looking appearance by lifting your brow’s position.

Who are the Best Candidates for a Brow Lift?

While anybody can be a good candidate, the average patients are typically between 40 and 60 years old and have a good, overall healthy lifestyle. Other candidates may have a genetic predisposition that creates a double eyelid crease or furrowed brow.

Most of the candidates that we see for infra brow lift have sagging eyelid skin, their eyelid folds appear very small, or they have puffy eyelids.

What are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?

Oftentimes, patients get a Brow Lift to improve a “tired look”. The procedure gives our patients more self-confidence by providing them with a more refreshed & youthful appearance and resolves any drooping or sagging eyelids.

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting a brow lift in the Bay Area with Dr. Chase Lay is to schedule a consultation. We have a dedicated front desk team who is excited to speak with you and book your appointment.

During your consultation, you’ll be able to express your surgical desires, ask Dr. Lay questions, and get a better understanding of the procedure. Dr. Lay will perform a full assessment of your eyes, forehead, and face and provide his expert recommendations.

If you and Dr. Lay decide that is the best solution for you, surgery will be booked, and we’ll provide you with pre and postoperative instructions. It’s vital that you follow these instructions as closely as possible, as they are designed to ensure that your brow lift procedure goes as smoothly as possible and that we’re able to reduce any risks or complications.

Dr. Lay will also have specific questions for you on current medications, past surgeries, and reactions. Be upfront and honest with Dr. Lay not only with your medical answers but also with your aesthetic goals. Remember, good communication will lead to optimal results.

What to Expect on the Day of Brow Lift?

The procedure usually takes between 1 and 2 hours. Dr. Lay will administer some light anesthesia (also referred to as twilight anesthesia) or intravenous sedation, depending on what you discuss during your consultation. There are several different ways of performing the surgery including Infra-brow lift, direct brow lift, endoscopic lift, and an open brow lift.

Dr. Lay uses the Infra-brow lift technique by making the incision right below the eyebrow (he tries to hide it right along the hairline). This helps lift and create a more open eye for patients who have a heavier eyelid.

Brow Lift Recovery

After your procedure, Dr. Lay will apply some surgical dressings to your treated area which on average will be removed after about 3 days. During your recovery, you will be required to elevate your head and apply cold compresses as needed to reduce swelling. After about 1 to 2 weeks, you will be able to resume your normal routine. We would advise you to avoid doing anything too strenuous for at least 3 to 6 weeks following your procedure to ensure the best results.

Most of our healthy clients will heal extremely well with zero to little complications following their procedure. Due to the placement of the incisions, they should be minimally noticeable and will fade over time.

Is a brow lift painful?

The procedure itself is not painful at all. Dr. Lay utilizes a variety of minimally invasive techniques to optimize his patient’s experience. His years of experience and use of anesthesia or sedation medications help numb your face to avoid any pain or discomfort during surgery.

What are the risks/complications?

As with any sort of surgical procedure, a brow lift does contain the possibility of certain risks, including but not limited to: infection, delayed healing, prominent scarring, and/or skin irregularities. Dr. Lay takes pride in taking every possible step to reduce any negative side effects.

Can I combine the surgery with other procedures?

Yes, it’s very common to combine the surgery with upper eyelid surgery, also referred to as upper blepharoplasty. Many of our other patients will also include nonsurgical treatments such as wrinkle relaxers or dermal fillers. During your consultation, we’ll be able to go over all options to help you re-discover the best aesthetic version of yourself.
