Dermal Fillers San Jose

Wrinkles and deep lines are only part of the story when it comes to aging. Our faces lose volume as well, in our cheeks, jawline, forehead, and temples. Many people, however, aren’t ready for an invasive procedure such as a facelift to restore a youthful appearance. That’s why dermal fillers such as Restylane® are so popular for San Francisco Bay Area residents seeking a non-surgical option for facial rejuvenation.

Dermal fillers when injected by a board-certified facial plastic surgeon such as Dr. Chase Lay in San Jose can achieve excellent results for most patients. Please request a consultation online, or call Dr. Lay’s office at (408) 358-3888 to schedule an appointment to learn more about your options.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

We all experience the effects of aging: thinner skin that looks less plump and smooth than it did when we were younger. In other words, most men and women are good candidates for fillers. Dermal fillers are safe and designed to treat various issues that cause us to appear older than we feel. Most patients who come in for fillers are as young as 30 years old and either want to soften nasolabial folds (the lines from the nose to the corners of your mouth) or vertical lip lines, or increase the volume in their cheeks.

Real Answers From Dr. Lay

“Think of dermal fillers like a home improvement project. If you only update the kitchen, you’re going to notice the problems with the living room and bathrooms more. It makes sense to treat wrinkles and deep lines with BOTOX® Cosmetic at the same time you restore volume with fillers.”

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dr. Lay offers a number of different fillers, which each offer unique advantages for certain patients. The versatility is needed to treat lines at wrinkles at various depths. Most fillers used these days use hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance found in your body. Since it’s not made using animal sources, allergy testing isn’t needed prior to your treatment. Other, heavier, fillers use a compound called Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) that’s found naturally in bones.

Fillers at a glance:

An HA filler that treats moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. It’s also approved for lip enhancement.

An HA filler used to treat moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. The effects typically last 9 months to a year. May contain lidocaine to increase comfort during treatments.

Considered a 3rd generation HA filler, it can minimize swelling. A single syringe also contains more of the filler than other HA fillers, so it can cover more area.

Similar to Restylane, but designed to be injected deeper into the skin to treat deeper folds.

Uses calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral compound found naturally in human bones. It’s used to fill deep creases such as nasolabial folds, with results that last up to a year or more in some patients.

What Should I Expect?

Filler injections are quick in-office treatments that can be done in less than 30 minutes in many cases.  Dr. Lay will assess your skin tone and listen to your cosmetic goals, then map specific points for the injections based on those goals. After completing the injections you will be offered an ice-pack to relieve any minor discomfort. Swelling, redness, and sometimes minor bruising are typical reactions. Dr. Lay doesn’t recommend getting injections before important social or professional events because certain areas of the face are more prone to bruising than others.
